THE LOCATION

History:
The land in the settlement of Ouranoupoli belongs to the monastery of Vatopedi from the 1018 and the village of Ouranoupolis was built by the refugees shortly after 1924. Later, in 1946 it was renamed "Ouranoupolis" in honor of the ancient city in which it was built on. Today, Ouranoupoli is the center of religious tourism for both men who have the opportunity to visit and worship Mount Athos, as well as women who can admire the wild beauty of Athos from the sea.

What is worth seeing and doing:

The Tower of Prosforios, the symbol of Ouranoupoli. It is an impressive Byzantine tower, built in 1344.
Fragokastro (Frankish Castle or Zygou Monastery) located just 40 meters from the border with Mount Athos.
Cruise on the peninsula of Athos and the Drenia Islands, which are a true paradise for solitary coves and golden beaches combined with a collection of uninhabited rocky islets.
